Title: Azithromycin for Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Mycoplasma genitalium - The Drug Does Work, But Can Make It Worse. Mycoplasma genitalium (MG) and Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG) are important causes of genital tract disease but the treatment of these infections is increasingly made more challenging by the presence of azithromycin associated resistance. High levels of azithromycin resistance in MG is now commonplace globally although not ubiquitous and azithromycin may threaten to undermine dual therapies in NG. Retaining use of azithromycin will require intelligent use of dosing and new diagnostic opportunities.
